Dash (DASH) is a peer-to-peer digital currency that aims to be the most user-friendly and scalable payments-focused cryptocurrency. Dash is built upon the Bitcoin/Litecoin codebase with the addition of many new features such as: instant transaction confirmations, low transaction fees, and privacy. As a second generation cryptocurrency, Dash has attempted to solve some of the pitfalls of BTC. For starters it instituted a system of Masternodes to simplify the validation and verification of transactions. Masternodes are basically full nodes with a starting stake of 1,000 DASH in their systems. Masternodes have solved some scalability problems for transactions because they reduce the number of nodes required to confirm transactions to a manageable/lower number. Another major difference from BTC is that Dash has a voting system in place so that important changes can be implemented. Also unlike Bitcoin, Dash is self-funding, where 45% of the newly created Dash coins in each block go to miners, 45% to masternodes, and the last 10% goes to a treasury fund for the development team, marketing, customer support centers, etc.
